Simsbury Family Displaced After Fire Ravages Home

The blaze on Monday displaced a family of five, which is receiving help from the Red Cross.

SIMSBURY, CT — The American Red Cross is assisting a family of five displaced by a fire on Monday on Center Street in Simsbury.

The family — two adults and three children — received help to meet their immediate needs, according to the Red Cross.

According to the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Co., Firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire at 6 Center St. in Simsbury.

Fire officials said crews encountered heavy flames on arrival.

The SVFC said heavy fire was visible from first-floor windows on the front right side of the home when crews arrived.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the bulk of the blaze and confirmed all occupants had safely exited the residence.

Additional crews worked to put out the fire that had extended to the second floor and attic.

Officials reported significant fire, smoke, and water damage throughout the home and the residents will be displaced for an undetermined amount of time.

Mutual aid was provided by the Avon Fire Department and the Bloomfield Center Fire Department. Additional assistance came from the Simsbury Police Department, Simsbury Ambulance, and the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Simsbury Fire Marshal’s Office.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross supplied a recovery envelope with information to help the family navigate the aftermath of a fire, including cleanup guidance, key contacts, and steps for addressing damaged belongings.

The Red Cross also distributed comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, and shaving supplies for residents forced from their homes.

In the coming days, the family will connect with Red Cross caseworkers to develop a longer-term recovery plan.

The Red Cross said its assistance is made possible by donations and volunteers.
