Simsbury Dems To Kick Off Osborne Campaign

SIMSBURY, CT — Democratic state representative hopeful Melissa Osborne and local Democrats are hosting a grand opening Saturday for Simsbury Democratic Headquarters.

The event will also serve as an official kickoff for Osborne’s campaign for the general election.

It starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 916 Hopmeadow St., fronting on Iron Horse Boulevard.

After winning a primary last month against the party's endorsed hopeful for the 16th House seat, which comprises all of Simsbury, Osborne is opposing Republican nominee Mike Paine.

The incumbent for the seat, Democrat John Hampton, is not seeking another term.

Hampton, along with U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-5th District, and Simsbury Democratic Town Committee Chairman David Moore are joining Connecticut Speaker of the House Matt Ritter, Simsbury First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis, former representative Linda Schofield and former first selectmen Mary Glassman, Lisa Heavner and Anita Mielert for the event.

Hayes said it was time for party unity following August's primary that saw Osborne narrowly defeat party-endorsed Eric Wellman for the Democratic spot on the November election ballot.

“Now it’s up to us to come together and help get Melissa elected. She is a passionate advocate for women, seniors, the environment, and health care, and she’ll bring a commonsense approach to effective government," Hayes said.

“I’ve seen Melissa in action in the courtroom and on the campaign trail and she will be a force to be reckoned with for Simsbury’s interests in the General Assembly," Moore said of the local attorney.
