Veterans Day Ceremony Planned In Simsbury

All military veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend.

SIMSBURY, CT — On Tuesday, Simsbury residents are going to the polls like all Connecticut communities for state and national elections.

And on Friday, the Simsbury community will honor local veterans who served to keep those elections free.

Members of the Simsbury Veterans Day Planning Committee, consisting of the Metacomet Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1926 and American Legion Tomalonis Hall Post 84, will conduct the annual ceremony at the Simsbury Veterans Memorial beginning at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.

The memorial is located at the driveway entrance to the Simsbury Library, 725 Hopmeadow St. (Route 10).

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the auditorium of Eno Memorial Hall, 754 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.

Keynote speaker will be Simsbury VFW member Colonel (Ret.) Lori Winn.

Winn received her Air Force commission through Officer Training School in 1995 and has held numerous leadership communications and cyber positions at the joint, squadron, group and MAJCOM levels before retiring in August 2020.

During her service, she deployed to Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia; Headquarters Central Command, Tampa, Fla., and the Combined Air Operations Center, Qatar.

She is currently the second vice president, cybersecurity operations and threat intelligence at Travelers Companies, Inc. in Hartford.

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was founded in honor of the signing of the agreement to end the fighting along the western front during WWI.
