Simsbury Issues Parking Ban, Snow Removal Rules Regarding Snowstorm

Simsbury officials remind residents of parking ban, hydrant clearing, and snow removal rules.

SIMSBURY, CT — With a winter storm approaching, officials in Simsbury are reminding residents of local and state snow removal requirements aimed at keeping roads clear and residents safe.

The town announced Sunday that a parking ban will be in effect for the duration of snow removal operations.

Under the town ordinance, vehicles may not be parked on any public street or road while crews are clearing snow.

Officials said all vehicles must be removed from public roadways to allow plows to operate efficiently.

Residents are also asked to clear snow around fire hydrants located on their property to ensure emergency access if needed.

Town officials emphasized that it is against local ordinance to plow, shovel, or snow-blow snow and ice from private property into public roadways.

Doing so creates hazards for motorists and complicates municipal snow removal efforts.

Property owners are required to clear sidewalks within 24 hours after the storm ends, according to town rules.

In addition, state law requires drivers to remove accumulated snow and ice that could pose a threat to people or property from any vehicle operated on a street or highway.

That includes clearing snow from vehicle roofs.

Town officials urged residents to “stay safe and stay warm."
