Legal Pot Businesses In Simsbury, The Latest

SIMSBURY, CT — Local zoning officials plan to extend a moratorium regarding development of legal recreational cannabis establishments in Simsbury as town officials continue to mull regulations governing them.

The moratorium, which basically prohibits recreational pot businesses in town at this time, was slated to expire Nov. 8.

The Simsbury Zoning Commission Sept. 19 voted 5-0 to schedule a public hearing for Oct. 17 to discuss extending it to May 8, 2023.

The Simsbury Zoning Commission next meets on Monday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Simsbury Public Library, 925 Hopmeadow St.

Once testimony is heard, the hearing can be closed and the zoning commission can vote on the moratorium extension, possibly that night.
That same night, the zoning board will also conduct a hearing on text amendments to zoning regulations that allow for recreational pot establishments in Simsbury.

Such text amendments would govern where marijuana operations could be located in town.

According to a draft set of regulations being discussed by town officials, cannabis businesses would be prohibited in Simsbury Center, among other places.

They would, however, be allowed in certain industrial and commercial zones in town, as well as language defining what such establishments can sell.
