Simsbury Obituary: John Adams, 81

John “Jack” Taylor Adams, 81, of Granby, best friend and beloved husband for 63 years of Gail (Smith) Adams, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, surrounded by his family at his home.

Born in Springfield, MA on August 28, 1936, son of the late Norman and Alice (Taylor) Adams, he was raised in West Suffield and later moved to East Granby. Jack graduated from Simsbury High School with the Class of 1954. After high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for seven years.

Jack worked in the aerospace industry for over 40 years and retired from Delta Industries as an aerospace inspector. He and his wife were a team volunteering for almost 25 years for the Granby Ambulance Association where Jack also served a term as president. He was recognized for his years of dedicated service as an MRT in 2001 when he received a Community Service Recognition Award and was honored as Granby’s Humanitarian of the Year with his wife by Congressman John Larson in 2002.

Together, Jack and his wife, Gail amassed over 10,000 hours of “ride time”. They touched hundreds of lives in Granby and East Hartland by responding to the full spectrum of 911 emergencies. Jack was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan since the 1970s and a Boston Red Sox fan. He frequently watched the games while talking to his sister, Norma on the phone. Most of all, he will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family and his community.

Besides the love of his life Gail, he leaves a son, George Adams and his wife Jennifer of East Granby; a daughter, Jacqueline McDunnah of Southwick, MA; a sister, Norma Gallant and her husband, Douglas of Fullerton, CA; two grandsons, Daniel Jeffries and his wife Vanessa of Las Vegas, NV and Joshua Jeffries of Granby; a niece, Janet Gallant of Corning, NY; and his two cats, Max and Jules. He was predeceased by a son, Brian Taylor Adams in 1999.

His family will receive friends on Monday, September 25, 4-8 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 11 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, Granby. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.

Jack’s family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Granby Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 617, Granby, CT 06035.
