Simsbury PD Seeks Armed Robber As School Was Put On Lockdown: Police

The incident happened Tuesday evening at a local gas station/convenience store near a private school in town.

SIMSBURY, CT — Local police are looking for the suspect responsible for an armed robbery at a local convenience store early Tuesday evening that also put a nearby school on lockdown.

The Simsbury Police Department said at about 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to an emergency 911 call reporting a robber at the Simsbury Mini Mart/BP gas station at 955 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.

According to police, the caller said an adult male entered the store while wielding a knife, demanded cash, and then fled on foot.

As a result of the incident, a nearby private school was put on lockdown for a period of time.

Police did not identify the private school, but Hopmeadow Street is home to St. Mary's School at 946 Hopmeadow St. and the Westminster School at 995 Hopmeadow St.

The SPD eventually lifted lockdown orders once it was determined there was no risk to the general public.

No one was hurt in the incident, police said, and the robbery is under investigation.
