Simsbury Police Use Narcan to Save Young Man's Life

Two officers administered Naloxone to a young man suffering from an opioid overdose.

SIMSBURY, CT - A pair of Simsbury police officers are being credited with saving the life of a young man who had sustained an opioid overdose.

On its Facebook page, the Simsbury Police Department gave a narrative of how the situation unfolded Friday.

The young man was found lying unresponsive on the side of a roadway, and Officer Jamie Ball determined he was in life-threatening respiratory distress. Ball immediately recognized the symptoms of an opioid overdose and administered Naloxone, police said.

Ball and Sgt. Dan Thibault provided the man with oxygen and monitored his vital signs. The victim came out of respiratory distress, became responsive and was taken to the hospital for further treatment. He is expected to recover from the overdose, police said.

Simsbury police have carried Naloxone in order to quickly reverse a life-threatening overdose from heroin and certain other narcotics since March 2015.
