Simsbury Seeks Leader To Plan US 250th Events Locally

The Simsbury 250th Celebration Committee is looking for a volunteer to coordinate all local events for the U.S. 250th celebration in 2026.

SIMSBURY, CT — Just like the 1976 Bicentennial, the Town of Simsbury and its historical society are planning major celebrations associated with the country's 250th birthday in 2026.

As part of local observances of the national celebration, the Simsbury 250th Celebration Committee is seeking a volunteer to chair programs and events.

The Simsbury Historical Society said this is the most important subcommittee of its town-wide group formed to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The 250th committee consists of representatives from various community groups including the Simsbury Historical Society, Simsbury Free Library, Abigail Phelps Chapter DAR, Simsbury VFW Post 1926, Tariffville Village Association, Simsbury High School, and Simsbury Board of Selectmen among others.

The chairperson of the program and events subcommittee will work with this group and other communities, and coordinate with the America 250 | CT Commission, to develop a schedule of activities leading up to the closing event on July 4, 2026.

The successful candidate will have some experience in working with multiple groups, have good organizational skills, and be familiar with the effective use of multiple social media resources.

Event planning is a plus.

The 250th committee presently meets one evening a month, however, meeting frequency will increase over time.
