Simsbury Seeks Volunteers For Fair Rent Commission

The commission, aimed at resolving housing rent disputes, was first created in 1986 and it was resurrected last month.

SIMSBURY, CT — A resurrected commission is looking for folks to weigh in on current and future housing rent disputes between landlords and tenants.

As a result, the Town of Simsbury is seeking volunteers who are registered voters in Simsbury to serve on the Simsbury Fair Rent Commission.

The commission, established in 1986, was recently reactivated after updating the original ordinance.

It was resurrected by the Simsbury Board of Selectmen on Nov. 13 with a unanimous, 5-0 vote that, technically, amended Simsbury codes regarding the commission to be in line with the current form of government and state regulations on such commissions.

The charge of a fair rent board is to study and arbitrate rental disputes between landlords and housing tenants, with the commission's ruling on a matter binding.
