Town officials said residents can expect increases in their taxes this year, a byproduct of budget increases and the recently completed property revaluation.

As it stands now, the total town/school budget is $121.95 million, a $6.99 million increase from current spending or 6.08 percent larger.

Most of that budget is the Simsbury Board of Education spending plan, which is $81.58 million, a figure $5.12 million larger than this year, or 6.7 percent larger.

For those who can't attend the hearing, folks can offer input to town officials on budget and tax matters via the town's website.

A recently completed revaluation has prompted a shift in taxes with new assessments possibly meaning higher values and, possibly, higher taxes.

The town's spending plan will tentatively be decided at the polls on May 2.
