Want To Help Out Neighbors In Need In Simsbury? Here's How
The Town of Simsbury's social services department needs the community to pitch in to help others help themselves.
SIMSBURY, CT — The Town of Simsbury Community and Social Services Department this week has kicked of a new donation drive it hopes will fill its coffers with what is needed to help those in need.
The department has begun what it is calling its "First Annual Appeal 2022."
"Our goal is to raise funds to continue to provide assistance to our residents in need," wrote the town via social media.

There are four major funds overseen by social services. They include:
• Director's Discretionary Fund: Which helps low-income households facing an emergency situation.

This fund can be used to help someone, for example, pay their rent amid some other financial emergency.
According to the town, the department doled out $22,000 through this fund a year ago.
• Keep Simsbury Warm: This fund helps folks pay their winter heating and utility bills, something that is especially acute as energy costs have skyrocketed with inflation.
• Simsbury Food Pantry: This is a stockpile of food, household cleaning products, paper products and toiletries that help out households in need.
Social services officials said there are 133 households in town current receiving assistance.
• Youth Needs & Holiday Gifts: This helps children buy back-to-school supplies and families in need get holiday gifts for their children.
Last year, 92 children were served from this fund, which also funds scholarship for camp opportunities.
Simsbury Community and Social Services is hoping folks mail in donations to Simsbury Social Services, 754 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT 0070. For more information on the campaign, call Simsbury Director of Social Services Kristen Formanek at 860-658-3283 or email her at kformanek@Simsbury-ct.gov.
