SIMSBURY, CT — State Sen. Saud Anwar, D-South Windsor, Thursday endorsed Simsbury Attorney Melissa Osborne for the 16th District General Assembly seat.

Osborne, a local attorney, is facing off against Simsbury Selectman Eric Wellman in the Aug. 9 Democratic primary for the 16th House Seat nomination.

“Melissa has been a passionate policy advocate for women at the legislature working on everything from breast cancer screening to domestic violence legislation. She was a critical facilitator to help us get Jennifer’s law passed last year. As both a senator and a doctor, I know we need strong female leaders like her in the legislature to fight for women’s health care rights and continue this important work for Connecticut women," said Anwar.

"Jennifer's Law" was passed in the legislature last year and it expands the definition of domestic violence to include "coercive control."

It's named after two high-profile domestic violence victims in state history: Jennifer Farber Dulos and Jennifer Magnano, both of whom were killed in domestic incidents.
