Steve Rushin to Give Westminster School Reading Oct. 11

Award-winning writer Steve Rushin will give a reading at Westminster School Oct. 11 as part of the school’s Friday Nights at Westminster series. The student readers will be seniors Geena Kim, the winner of the Brian Ford Prize, and Daniel Pinckney.

Rushin is a contributor of columns and features to Sports Illustrated, an author, a travel writer and an essayist. His first book, “Road Swing,” which was published in 1998, was named one of the Best Books of the Year by Publishers Weekly and one of the Top 100 Sports Books of All Time by Sports Illustrated. A collection of his sports and travel writing, “The Caddie Was a Reindeer,” was published in 2005 and was a semifinalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. In 2010, he published his first novel, “The Pint Man,” and in 2013, he published the nonfiction book “The 34-Ton Bat.”

A four-time finalist for the National Magazine Award, Rushin has had his work anthologized in The Best American Sports Writing, The Best American Travel Writing and The Best American Magazine Writing collections. His essays have appeared in Time magazine and The New York Times.

Rushin’s Westminster School reading is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Gund Reading Room of the school’s Armour Academic Center. The school is located at 995 Hopmeadow St. in Simsbury. Ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to Armour Academic Center.
