Valentine’s Day Live Storytelling at the Storyteller’s Cottage
Two award-winning storytellers weave tales that speak to the vulnerability of the human heart.

The Storyteller’s Cottage in Simsbury, CT will host “Valentine’s Day Live Storytelling” with popular professional storytellers Motoko and Eshu on Saturday February 9th at 8:00 pm. This event is recommended for ages 16 and up.
Motoko and Eshu, two award-winning spoken word performers, will perform “Naked Hearts,” which intertwines humor, music, love, and desire. Eshu's bluesy voice and Motoko's graceful movement will entice you to take an artistic journey through the ins and outs of romance.
A gifted storyteller, Motoko has spent decades enchanting audiences of every age. Her repertoire includes Asian folktales, Rakugo and Zen tales, ghost stories, mime vignettes, as well as oral memoirs from her childhood in Osaka and her life as an immigrant in the U.S. In recognition of her talent, Motoko received the National Storytelling Network’s 2017 Circle of Excellence Award.
Nationally-renowned storyteller Eshu Bumpus captivates his audience by telling a variety of African, African-American, and World folktales leavened with music, humor, and mystery. An accomplished jazz vocalist, Eshu has become a master at physical characterization. After appearing at the 10th Annual Connecticut Storytelling Festival, Eshu was acclaimed as, "… a fresh, responsible and knowledgeable voice... distinct and compelling... the hit of the Festival.”
