Simsbury PD Releases Footage Of Attempted Car Break-In, Issues Warning: WATCH
Car break-ins are on the rise in Simsbury and police urge residents to be careful.
SIMSBURY, CT — Local police Wednesday released revealing footage of the type of vehicle break-ins that have been on the increase in Simsbury in recent weeks.
The Simsbury Police Department used the footage to warn residents of what they should do if they see someone breaking into their vehicles.
Wednesday's footage occurred early in the morning just after midnight on Jan. 11 in the area of Route 10/202 and Route 315, police said.

It depicts a masked suspect carefully approaching two BMWs in a residential driveway.
In this case, the suspect walked away and didn't appear to damage or break into the vehicles, but it shows how many of these crimes are occurring.

"Despite our substantial efforts, the thefts from and thefts of motor vehicles are still occurring," wrote the SPD in a social media post.
The department also offered tips for people who may stumble upon someone breaking into their vehicle or anyone else's. They include:
• If you witness individuals trying to enter your vehicles, do not approach them. In some instances these individuals are armed and are dangerous.
• Be a good witness and call 911 to report the crime in progress.
"We will continue to increase our efforts but your assistance is vital to your safety and our success," police wrote.
