The public is invited to a free reading by writer Maud Macrory Powell April 26 at Westminster School.

Writer Maud Macrory Powell will give a reading at Westminster School April 26 as part of the school’s Friday Nights at Westminster series of readings and concerts held during the academic year. Student readers will include sophomore Nathalie Charles and junior Vernita Zhai.
Powell, a 1990 alumna of Westminster, comes from a family of writers. “City of Grit and Gold” is her debut novel, and her essay “The Fruits of My Labor” was published in the anthology “Greenhorns: The Next Generation of American Farmers.” Born and raised in Washington, D.C., she studied comparative religion in college and environmental studies in graduate school. She and her husband run an organic seed and vegetable farm in the Siskiyou Mountains of southwestern Oregon.
Powell’s reading at Westminster is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Gund Reading Room of the school’s Armour Academic Center. The school is located at 995 Hopmeadow St. in Simsbury. Ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to Armour Academic Center.
