You are Invited to Tea Sunday with Abigail Adams at the Simsbury Public Library

Meet Carol Bielefeld as Abigail Adams, wife of the 2nd President of the United States as you share stories about her life over a cup of tea.

Abigail Adams was ‘Miss Adorable’ to her husband, John, the 2nd President of the United States. He was away much of their married life as Abigail managed the farm, raised their four children, supervised their education, ran a business, bought land and invested their money.

In the midst of this, she wrote more than 1,600 letters which describe her life and times in a newsy and often tender and emotional way. Her famous ‘Remember the Ladies’ directive to her husband highlights her early push for equal rights under the law.

As ‘Abigail Adams,’ Carol Bielefeld will present a lively portrait of one of the most fascinating and remarkable women in our nation’s history.

Carol states:

“In 2013, Abigail Adams came alive for me in a biography by Woody Holton, written some years before. I read how she, with no formal schooling, urged and pleaded for better education for women.

“Today, we have many varied educational opportunities in our country, while women in other parts of the world still struggle for the privileges we take for granted.

“Abigail oversaw the family farm, raised the children, ran a business and invested money as John was serving the Country. I was, somehow, compelled to write a presentation to showcase this remarkable woman.”

This program will be held at the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St. on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Registration is requested at 860-658-7663 or www.simsburylibrary.info. Free and open to all.
