• Beginner-Friendly Square Dance Lessons (ctpublic.org) — Beginner-friendly square dance lessons are coming to the United Church of Christ on Main Street North in Southbury, offering two free introductory Tuesday sessions on September 15 and 22. Residents of all ages can join without a partner or special attire, enjoying low-impact exercise, social connection, and a welcoming local dance club eager to meet new members.
• FEMA approves nearly $50 million for New England disaster recovery and flood protection (fingerlakes1.com) — Southbury is set to receive more than $100,000 in FEMA funding to upgrade culverts, headwalls, and related infrastructure, part of nearly $50 million in disaster recovery and flood-mitigation projects across New England. These repairs aim to strengthen local roads against future storms while neighboring states tackle bridge, utility, and property buyout projects to reduce long-term flood risks.
• Sandy Hook builder approved for new homes near Southbury line over neighbors' flooding concerns (nhregister.com) — A Newtown builder has received approval to add two more single-family homes on Beechwood Drive, right near the Southbury border, despite neighbors' worries about flooding on the low-lying site. Town engineers say new stormwater measures are sufficient, but residents remain concerned that future homeowners could face water problems after heavy rains.
