SOUTHBURY, CT — A Pomperaug High School teacher's home was targeted in at least six vandalism incidents dating to 2024 before a former student was arrested in connection with one of them, according to a report.
The incidents included repeated eggings and a mailbox blown up by an M80 firecracker, according to the News-Times. The homeowners told police the ongoing vandalism had left them exhausted and concerned for their family.
Southbury police arrested an 18-year-old Middlebury resident Sept. 6 in connection with a July 31 incident at the teacher's home. Police said other people were involved and additional arrests were expected.
According to the News-Times, the warrant states that the former student gave police a written confession admitting he and five friends threw eggs at the residence. When asked why the home was targeted, he reportedly told investigators that students disliked the teacher because she was tough and they had expected her class to be easy.
Connecticut court records show the former student faces charges of third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal trespass. He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to return to Waterbury Community Court on Oct. 16.
