As Temperature Cools Down, Shopping Center Gazebo Heats Up

Gail Wade and the Turning Points played a set at the Southbury Shopping Center Gazebo Thursday night.

The intense heat lifted just in time for the Thursday night concert by Gail Wade and the Turning Points. The weekly event — held in the Gazebo by Southbury Shopping Center — is sponsored by Miller and Favasso Properties, developers of the Center.

Henrietta Buch, a newcomer to Heritage Village, is enjoying the concerts for the first time this year.

"They play well as a group," she said of The Turning Points. Her friend, Mildred Olson, added that the group included "very good musicians.

It was a "picture-perfect" evening and a large crowd had gathered, some with picnics, for the 6 to 8 p.m. concert. This is the thirteenth year of the concert series.  A few people brought along their pets, and some children twirled on the lawn in time to the group's rhythm.

Carole Damon, the former Director of the Southbury Senior Center, said she enjoys a number of different activities in the community now that she has retired. "I don't want to spend my days weeding," she said.

The Turning Points included Gale Wade as vocalist and guitarist, Peggy Harvey on sax, Rob Rainwater on Bass, Tim St. Jean on mandolin and Dan Menzone on guitar. Next  week's group, The Cartells, will feature jazz, swing, rhythm and blues. The July 15 concert is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Bring your own chairs, blankets and food. There is no charge.
