Developer Seeking 180 Units of Senior Housing in Southbury
If the project is approved it would be over a ten-year period of time.

Pierce Hollow Village, Inc. is proposing to construct a maximum 180 elderly housing units in six buildings over the next ten years on 45 acres of land that is currently part of the Southbury Training School, a town official said.
The town Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main Street South in Room 205 at 7:30 p.m. to address the application.

Pierce Hollow Village, Inc. operates Grace Meadow Housing Inc., which is the major elderly housing facility in town on Route 6. There is currently a major need for additional senior housing in town as there is a waiting list of more than 200 to 300 people.
Recently the state conveyed 45 acres of land to the town, which is part of the Southbury Training School, to construct senior housing. Pierce Hollow Village, Inc. is seeking a zone change to allow elderly housing on the property.

Southbury has agreed to lease the land to Pierce Hollow Village, Inc. for the senior housing project.
Additionally, the developer is seeking a zone change to allow more than 10 units in a building, said Delores Curtis, who is Southbury’s land-use administrator.
The developer is looking to construct 30 units in one building, she said.
The property is bordered East by South Britain Road, a/k/a State Route 172 and Pierce Hollow Cemetery, South by other property of Southbury Training School, by Traditions at Historic Southbury residential development, and by Cappen, LLC, and North and West by other land of the Southbury Training School.
