As the son of two Soviet immigrants, Uriel developed a deep appreciation for Israel’s role in helping Russian Jewry and has written on the subject of Russian Zionism. He speaks English, Russian, and French.
During his freshman year at Yale, he looked to increase the presence of the pro-Israel movement on campus. His biggest achievement was forming a new branch of Yale Friends of Israel that deals directly with political affairs and engages with elected representatives. Weekly YFI Thursday dinners have included guests such as Professor Charles Hill (former senior adviser to Henry Kissinger) and subjects ranging from Israeli Dance to the Arab Spring. Outside of direct pro-Israel advocacy, Uriel was a research assistant to Professor Charles Small of the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Anti-Semitism.
