Fred Astaire Production Will Feature Reality Show Dancer and Local Amateur Performers in "Stars on Broadway"

The Fred Astaire Dance Studios will be presenting "Stars on Broadway" on Saturday, April 16, at 7:00pm at the Naugatuck Community College.

The Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Southbury and South Windsor will be presenting “Stars on Broadway” on Saturday, April 16, at 7:00pm at the Naugatuck Valley Community College Main Stage Theater. The production will showcase local amateur ballroom dancers, including Southbury resident Karen Montini, the creator and star of a reality show based on ballroom dancing expected to launch this year with Dance Network.
Karen and the other 19 amateur dancers have been preparing for this performance for months and the show will give them a chance to exhibit all of their hard work and dedication to dancing. The performers range in age from 7 years old to 75 and vary from beginner to gold level, proving that anyone can dance! These are women and men with full-time jobs and families who still manage to make the time and put in the effort to succeed at an art that they love. As Paulo Jorge, co-owner of Fred Astaire Southbury explains, “To perform in a production like this requires an incredible amount of commitment and dedication. This showcase gives them an opportunity to show their loved ones and the community what they can do and all that they have accomplished. It is truly an inspiration and we are so proud of our students for having the courage to perform at this event. We hope the audience loves the show and that they are inspired to follow whatever their passion is.”
Karen Montini describes her dedication to dancing, “Dancing is such a large part of my life that I often say there are only 3 places I will ever be-home, work, or the dance studio. This is why I was inspired to create a reality show to share that passion and let viewers understand our ballroom world. And it is also why I love to participate in showcases like this one, where dancers of all ages and levels have their moment to shine and share their talent in a fun and entertaining way.”
Dance has always been an integral part of the Broadway musical, but throughout the last century it has changed drastically in regards to both style and function. We will pick scenes from some of the most popular and recognizable shows on Broadway from Kinky Boots to Evita and make an adaptation with current ballroom flair. There will be an opportunity after the show to meet the cast at the theater.
