'Goldrush' Kicks Off Free Summer Concert Series

The country band 'Goldrush' was the first of four bands to perform during the towns free summer concert series on Memorial Green.

The band Goldrush played a set Monday night on Memorial Green, kicking off a free summer evening concert series.

Teen ensemble Newbury Musical Theatre Company opened for the band, performing "Honestly Sincere" from 'Bye Bye Birdie,' the play they will perform at Pomperaug High School July 23, 24 and 25.

Goldrush is a 7-piece acoustic country band fronted by husband and wife Mary Beth and Gary Sippin.  The group played original hits and cover songs in their set which lasted about two hours plus intermission.

Southbury resident Denise Burke said that after hearing Goldrush, she fully intended to come back next week for the next free concert.

"The music is fantastic," said Burke.  "They're a very good group."
