Holocaust Survivor to Tell Her Story at B'Nai Israel in Southbury
Mother-daughter team Sharone Kornman and Irene Frisch will tell a survivor's story at a Holocaust Remembrance Day in Southbury on Tuesday.

SOUTHBURY, CT–The Jewish Federation of Western CT invites the community to reflect and remember those who were impacted by the Holocaust at their Pre-Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Day event on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Community Function Hall, 444 Main St. N., Southbury, Conn.
The event’s theme of “Righteous Gentiles” tells of the experiences of non-Jews who risked their lives to save those forced into hiding to escape the Nazis, and relates Jewish survivor experiences as well. The event will include prayers by Rabbi Eric Polokoff of B’nai Israel of Southbury. Guest speakers include Sharone Kornman and her mother Irene Frisch.
Sharone Kornman serves on the Executive Board of Voices of Hope, an organization that was established by the families of Holocaust survivors across Connecticut. She is the daughter of two survivors from the Galitzia region of Poland. Her mother, Irene Frisch, who will speak at the event, survived the Drohobycz Ghetto and was hidden by the family’s Polish housekeeper, Frania Sobkowa. Kornman’s late father, Eugene Frisch, fled to Russia alone and survived a Russian work camp.

“With the rise of anti-Semitism in our country and around the globe, it is more important than ever that we take the time to remember the Holocaust, and to honor the memories of those lost during that time,” said Jade Stoltz, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Western CT.
Rabbi Polokoff observed that “the courage of Righteous Gentiles during the Holocaust underscores a great moral lesson: we must not remain indifferent."
