Man Drives Wrong Way Down Main Street, Fight Leads to Charges

The following arrest information was supplied by the Southbury police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Wrong Way on Main Street

 Gilberto Avelar, 37, of Waterbury, was charged with DUI and failure to drive to the right on Saturday, August 4 at approximately 2:28 a.m. after Southbury police observed him driving erratically on Main Street South in Southbury.

According to police, Avelar was driving his Chevy Impala on the wrong side of the road down Main Street South.

Avelar was released on $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on August 15.

Altercation Leads to Disorderly Charge

Ryan Shaw, 20, of Southbury, was charged with disorderly conduct: fight capable of causing minor injuries, on Saturday, August 4 at approximately 2:49 a.m.

According to police, officers responded to a report of an outdoor altercation in Southbury and after a brief investigation charged Shaw.

Shaw was released on $500 non-surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on August 6.

Woman Believes She Was Robbed

Southbury police are investigating a possible theft from a wallet that may have occurred during the evening hours of Friday, July 20.

According to police, a complainant stated that she got lost in an unknown area of Southbury and was assisted by an unknown female, who the complainant believes may have taken her wallet and removed cash from inside.

The wallet was found in the vicinity of the Southbury Police Department during the morning hours of Saturday, July 21.
