New Details Released About Bear Attacking Horses In Southbury

SOUTHBURY, CT — Francis Moon's miniature horse, Savannah, was killed by a bear Saturday night while his other mini-horse, Precious was injured in the attack, WTNH News 8 reports.

According to News 8, Francis did all he could to protect his horses as he threw rocks in an effort to scare the bear away. A 150-pound black bear was euthanized by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Southbury residents have reported numerous bear sightings recently and Francis said he shared his story in an effort to raise awareness and urge pet owners to be alert. There have been 95 bear sightings in Southbury over the past year, according to state officials. You can click here to report a bear sighting to the DEEP.
