Obituary: John E. McArdle, 93, of Southbury

John E. McArdle, 93, of Southbury, CT, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at home. John was born in New York City and raised in Jersey City, NJ.

He graduated from Saint Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, and from Syracuse University in 1948 with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts. John was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Army Corp of Engineers in post-war Japan.

Following his education, John built a career in sales and broadcast management working for NBC–New York, WTTG–Washington, WNEW–New York, and WNYS–Syracuse. while raising his large family.

John was, first and foremost, devoted to his wife and children and his family brought his greatest joy. John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce (Wind); ten children: Kathleen, Port Chester, NY, Patrick, Washington DC, Timothy (Christy), Farmington, NY, Terence (Gale), Canandaigua, NY, Mary (Clint) Blume, Monroe, CT, John, Williamsburg VA, Moira (Parker) Hampson, Brookfield, CT, Cara, Woodbury, CT, Keely (Neel) Pender, Portland, OR, Erin (Greg) Ziegler, Chester, NJ; 24 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Christine.

Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 29, from 4-7pm in Sacred Heart Church Chapel, 910 Main Street South, Southbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, also at Sacred Heart Church.
