Please join us in the March for SAFE Food, SAFE HORSES

Time, Place: September 29, 2015 at 10:00am. The meeting point will be in front of the USDA building at South Building 1400 Independence Aven

We are raising awareness to the world of the loopholes we have in US legislation that allows US horses, which are laden with pharmaceuticals, into the global food supply. We’ve gained a lot of support in previous sessions of Congress for the SAFE Act (Safeguard American Food Exports), the time is NOW to ban our horses from slaughter and close our borders to horse slaughter transport. Our government is knowingly contaminating the global food supply.

146,548 horses were transported to slaughter in Canada, Mexico and Japan in 2014. Thus far, 80,899 American horses have been sent to slaughter in the same countries in 2015. And that toxic horsemeat is now showing up in ground “beef” in the United States.

Quite apart from the dangers inherent from the consumption of horse meat, domestic horses are companion animals, not food. As the more and more of our wild horses are being eradicated from the lands on which they have run free for decades upon decades through Government sanctioned round ups, they are also entering the slaughter pipeline. Horse slaughter is inhumane and horrific and no horse should be slaughtered for human or animal consumption.
