Police Blotter: A Car Thief Abandons His Prize, Fails to Escape

July 1

A 25-year-old Danbury man was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Failure to Drive in Proper Lane.

Connecticut State Police received a report of erratic operation on a vehicle traveling westbound on I-85 near exit 14.  It was reported to be weaving in it's lane and traveling at variable speeds.  An officer observed that the vehicle was traveling in the shoulder and suddenly veered into the left lane.  A motor vehicle stop was conducted leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old Danbury man for Driving Under the Influence and Failure to Drive in Proper Lane.

A 20-year-old Farmington woman was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Unsafe Movement.

An officer observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Main Street South.  The vehicle was traveling erratically, drifting off the shoulder and nearly struck another eastbound vehicle.  A motor vehicle stop was conducted leading to the drivers arrest for DUI and Unsafe Movement.

July 2

Man and woman arrested for Disorderly Conduct following Domestic Dispute

Southbury police responded to a domestic dispute on Hemlock Ridge Rd at 2:59 p.m.  After an investigation, both parties — a 34-year-old Norwalk man and a 34-year-old Southbury woman — were charged with Disorderly Conduct.  Both parties were released on a promise to appear in court.

July 3

A 29-year-old New London man was arrested after stealing, abandoning a car.

While investigating the report of an abandoned motor vehicle on Strongtown Rd. in which the driver had just walked away from the vehicle, it was learned that the car had been reported stolen.  A local police officer was checking the area for the suspect and was able to locate him four-tenths of a mile from the car, just over the Middlebury town line.  He was charged with Second-degree Larceny.
