Pomperaug Woods Welcomes New Marketing Directer

Pomperaug Woods recently welcomed Tara Justus as its new Marketing Director in Southbury.

From Glenn Devins, Senior Living Marketing Solutions: Connecticut is aging and undergoing a historic transformation. The state is currently the seventh oldest in the country, in terms of percentage of adults age 65 or older. These growing numbers of seniors are looking for quality living options with amenities and wellness services. Pomperaug Woods retirement community in Southbury has been greatly impacted by this growing population. Over the last few months, the community has seen a record number of sales for apartment homes and residences. With the high demand, the community has started a waiting list, and area seniors are signing on as a good first step to securing their future.

According to the latest US Census reports, nearly 5,300 people or 27% of the Southbury population is age 65 or older. That’s triple the percentage of older adults living in neighboring New Haven and double that of nearby Waterbury. By the year 2020, census reports project 40% of Southbury’s population will be over the age of 65.

“There’s a tremendous need for engaging senior living options in the area because of this growing population,” says Kevin Mosheir, who joined Pomperaug Woods as Executive Director 15 years ago. “Older adults are yearning for a location where they can grow and that’s what we offer to every resident. We believe there’s a need to educate the older population about senior living options and planning ahead for the future.”

The community attributes its success over the last 29 years to the experience of its staff, its financial stability, and its position as Southbury’s only not-for-profit LifeCare® community. LifeCare® offers residents graduating levels of care and health services all under the same roof. The 22-acre campus provides a variety of amenities and a maintenance-free lifestyle that’s ideal for today’s active seniors. Recent studies show when a person becomes part of an independent living retirement community like Pomperaug Woods, they’re more likely to make new friends and try new things, and most report a better experience than they expected.

Pomperaug Woods recently welcomed Tara Justus as its new Marketing Director, as the community prepares for the “Silver Tsunami,” the time when a growing number of Baby Boomers begin seeking residence in retirement communities. Justus brings leadership experience in senior living marketing and sales to the community, having previously worked as marketing director for Ardenwoods Retirement Community in Arden, North Carolina. In her new role, Justus will lead the marketing and sales team to understand the individual needs and desires of area seniors and educate them about lifestyle and wellness options.

“It’s wonderful to develop relationships with seniors because of their rich histories. It’s so rewarding to help them continue a vibrant lifestyle,” Justus says. “They’re the most interesting people you’ll ever meet. Take the opportunity to connect with a senior, whether it’s in your neighborhood or church or wherever it may be. If you can learn their story, you can carry on their legacy.”
