Region 15 Board of Ed Hosts Public Hearing on 2013-14 Budget
The Region 15 Board of Education public hearing will take place today: Monday, April 8.

The Region 15 Board of Education's public hearing on the proposed 2013-14 education budget will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the Pomperaug High School All-Purpose Room.

Board of Education chairperson Janet Butkus will briefly introduce the 2013-14 budget, followed by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Sippy who will give his final presentation on the budget proposal, a 2.82 percent increase over the current spending plan. This brings the budget to just under $62,000,000.

The budget is designed to address declining enrollment, full day Kindergarten, school security, information technology, and to prepare the District for Common Core State Standards and Smarter Balanced Assessments.
Offsets to the proposed budget increases include the elimination of the mid-day Kindergarten bus run, staff reductions, technology lease program, and reduction in medical insurance costs.

Following the presentation, citizens may address the Board of Education during Citizens’ Comments.
The Board of Education meeting will adjourn at the end of the Public Hearing and as is tradition, the Board will hold its regular meeting immediately following the Public Hearing. The members of the Board of Education will adopt the budget toward the end of their regular meeting.
The budget will go to referendum vote on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
