Region 15 Students Earn 2018 Halo Awards

From Region 15 Schools: Pomperaug High School (PHS) students were recognized at the 15th Annual Halo Awards on Tuesday, May 29th , 2018 at 7 Angels Theatre in Waterbury. The Halo Awards, sponsored by 7 Angels Theatre, is a gala red carpet event that celebrates the best in Connecticut High School theatre. 64 schools from across the State of Connecticut participated in the event and numerous awards, including Best Actor and Actress in a Musical, Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Musical, Best Acting by an Ensemble Cast, Best Specialty Ensemble in a Musical, Best Student Choreographer, plus categories for lighting, design, stage management, and special effects were given.

Paul Doniger, an English teacher and artistic director of the Pomperaug High School’s drama department for the past 14 years, directs the Pomperaug Theatre Company, the production department of the Pomperaug High School educational theatre program. The Pomperaug Theatre Company had three award winners and thirteen Halo nominations fortheir productions of A Most Curious Phenomenon and Cloak & Dagger. The Pomperaug Theatre Company won the award for Best Contemporary Play for the spring production of A Most Curious Phenomenon. PHS student Zakeeyah Johnson won the award for Best Comic Female Performance in a Play, for her role as Dixie in A Most Curious Phenomenon, and PHS student Grace Lomaro was given special recognition in the “No Small Parts Award” for her silent dedication to the character that she portrayed in her role as Patron #1 in Cloak & Dagger.

Best Comic Male Performance In A Play, by Conrad McDonald as Rick inA Most Curious Phenomenon.

Best Hair And/Or Makeup Design, by Marina Matozzo, Emily Douyard, Katharine Bonomo, Claire Eastwood, Naia Lehtinen, Grace Needham and Aya Alhabbal for A Most Curious Phenomenon.

Best Props Design And/Or Management, by Katharine Dowling and Isabella Storey for Cloak And Dagger.
Best Performance By A Supporting Actress In A Play, by Isabella Watson as Chantelle Chanson in Cloak And Dagger.

Best Performance By A Couple Or Dynamic Duo In A Play, by Emily Puglisi & Isabella Watson as Sarah Scientist #1 & #2 inA Most Curious Phenomenon.

Best Performance By A Cast In An Ensemble Play, by the Pomperaug High School Theatre Company in A Most Curious Phenomenon.

Best Female Standout Performance In An Ensemble Play, by Ella Storey as Sarah Young
in A Most Curious Phenomenon and Laura Stango as Sarah Present Day inA Most Curious Phenomenon.

Best Performance By A Leading Actor In A Contemporary Play, by Ben Bernard as Nick in Cloak And Dagger Best Performance By A Leading Actress In A Contemporary Play, by Storey as Lola Malone in Cloak And Dagger

Cloak & Dagger and A Most Curious Phenomenon were performed at Pomperaug High
School during the 2017-18 school year.
