Region 15 Students Inspired to Help Puerto Rico

The service- learning project is one of many projects aligned with Long Meadow's mission to create a lasting legacy of charitable acts.

Region 15 Schools: Students in Lisa William’s 4th grade class at Long Meadow Elementary School recently read about hurricanes in their natural disasters and weather non-fiction unit. The students became interested in Hurricane Maria and the damage that devastated Puerto Rico, and were inspired to assist those affected. Local dentists, Dr. Stephen Kest, of The Smile Spot in Southbury, and Dr.Perry Kest donated toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. With the assistance of Dr. Sue Shaw’s 5th grade class, the supplies were packaged with kindness cards and letters, and delivered to students in need in Puerto Rico. The service- learning project is one of many projects aligned with Long Meadow’s mission to create a lasting legacy of charitable acts in recognition of the school’s 20th anniversary.
