Southbury Election Results 2018: Local Winners Revealed

SOUTHBURY, CT — Republican incumbent State Rep. David Labriola defeated his Democratic challenger James Krochko on election night.

No vote totals were released but James Krochko for 131‏ said on social media, "Thank you everyone who came out today! Although we did not win, we saw record turnouts in Oxford, Southbury and Naugatuck. Thank you for all your support! I’m not giving up. I hope you don’t either."

The Connecticut Post also reports that State Rep. Arthur O'Neill, a Republican, won re-election defeating his Democratic opponent Greg Cava. O'Neill thanked the voters for their support, the Post reports.

State Sen. Eric Berthel also won reelection Tuesday, the Danbury News Times reports.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Voters have until 8 p.m. to vote in Connecticut's statewide election. Governor, Lt. governor, state treasurer, state comptroller, attorney general and secretary of the state are all up for grabs. Several local state senate, state house of representative and judge of probate races will also be decided.

Voters also can cast ballots for the U.S. Senate election and congressional races. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes. You can find your poll location at the Secretary of the State website by inputting your information.

Locally, in Southbury the choices for the 32nd Senatorial District are: Catherine DeCarli, Democratic challenger, versus Eric Berthel, GOP incumbent.

DeCarli said on her website that “I am seeking your vote for State Senate District 32 because I believe in the American Dream – that America is the land of opportunity and that each generation can be better off that the one that came before it. I am running because I see this dream slipping away from too many in our state.”

CT U.S. Senate Election Results 2018: Chris Murphy Vs. Matt Corey

Berthel was elected to represent the 32nd Senatorial District in a special election on Feb. 28, 2017. Prior to that, he represented the 68th House District serving Watertown, Oakville and Woodbury.

Eric, 50, was born in Brooklyn, New York and has lived in Connecticut since 1976. He is a graduate of Pomperaug Regional High School in Southbury.

Southbury residents will also vote on these state representative races: 69th House District Greg Cava, Democratic challenger, versus Arthur O'Neill, GOP incumbent.

O’Neil was first elected to the State House of Representatives in a 1988 special election, and is the longest-serving Republican member of the State House of Representatives. He was most recently re-elected in November of 2016. He serves as Deputy Republican Leader At-Large of the State House of Representatives.

Krochko said he is running because “We must change the way Hartford works. I’ll make it work for you”

Labriola was appointed Assistant Republican Leader for the 2007 – 2010 legislative sessions and as Republican Whip for the 2011-2012, and 2013-2014 sessions. He was also appointed Republican Whip for the 2015-16 session.

Labriola serves on the Government Administration & Elections Committee, as well as the Transportation and Judiciary committees. For the Judge of Probate race Domenick Calabrese, the Republican, is running unopposed.

All eyes are on the Governor’s race where the choices are: Ned Lamont, Democrat, Bob Stefanowski, Republican, Rodney Hanscomb, Libertarian, Mark Stewart Greenstein, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Oz Griebel, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The candidates for lieutenant governor are: Susan Bysiewicz, Democrat, Joe Markley, Republican, Jeffrey Thibeault, Libertarian Party, John Demitrus, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Monte E Frank, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The choices for the U.S. Senate race are: Matthew Corey, Republican Party, Christopher S. Murphy, Democratic Party, Richard Lion, Libertarian Party, and Jeff Russell, Green Party

For the U.S. House of Representatives race the choices in the 5th District are: Jahanna Hayes, Democrat, versus Manny Santos, Republican.

In the Secretary of State race the choices are: Denise W Merrill, Democratic Party, Susan Chapman, Republican Party, Heather Lynn Sylvestre Gwynn, Libertarian Party, and Michael DeRosa, Green Party.

In the race for State Treasurer the choices are: Shawn Wooden, Democratic Party, Thad Gray, Republican Party, and Jesse Brohinsky, Libertarian Party.

For the position of State Comptroller the choices are: Kurt Miller, Republican Party, Kevin Lembo, Democratic Party, Paul Passarelli, Libertarian Party, and Edward G Heflin, Green Party.

For the position of Attorney General the choices are: William Tong, Democratic Party, Sue Hatfield, Republican Party, Peter D. Goselin, Green Party.

Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. Unlike previously registered voters standing in line before 8 p.m. to register won’t guarantee the ability to vote.

Absentee ballots are also available for those who won’t be in town all of election day or for a multitude of other reasons.
