Southbury Explores Selling Nearly 250 Acres of Land: Report

A committee may be formed to study whether selling the land makes sense and would help generate tax revenue for Southbury.

SOUTHBURY, CT — The town is exploring whether it should entertain the notion of selling a combined almost 250 acres of land in an effort to help grow its tax base, the Republican-American reports.

Properties considered for sale include: 202-acre Southbury Corporate Park, which is located along Interstate 84, between Lakeside and Ichabod roads, and 40 acres off of Southford Road. A committee may be formed to examine what options are available for the two properties including possibly selling the land, the Rep-Am reports.

Officials have estimated that putting the land back on the tax rolls could generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax revenue annually and the town could receive a significant amount of money for the property too. However, the Rep-Am reports that not everyone is in support of selling the land.
