Southbury Fires Local Police Officer Over ‘Policy Violations’: PD

The termination followed internal affairs investigations, officials said.

SOUTHBURY, CT — A local police officer was terminated early this week due to what police administration described as “policy violations.”

The Board of Selectmen at a special meeting on Feb. 16 voted to terminate the employment of Gary Corigliano, meeting minutes show.

The police department, in a press release issued Feb. 17, said the employee had initially been placed on administrative leave following “alleged policy violations.”

There were two internal affairs investigations to review if policies were violated, police said.

“These investigations addressed administrative matters only and did not involve any criminal conduct,” the press release said.

The police department presented the findings of the investigations to the Board of Selectmen.

“After reviewing the results, the Board voted to separate the employee's employment with the Town,” the press release said.

Police administration declined to elaborate on what policies the officer was accused of violating. Officials refused to comment further, citing a personnel matter.

“The Southbury Police Department remains firmly committed to upholding the highest standards and values expected for our community,” the department said, in the press release. “Our professionalism, integrity, and accountability are crucial to maintaining the trust placed in us by the public.”

The officer could not be reached for comment.
