Southbury Leaders Pleased After Controversial Senate Bill Dies
The proposal would have given Middlebury the upper hand on Region 15 school matters on the Board of Education.

SOUTHBURY, CT — The Town of Southbury announced that Senate Bill 1019 has died at the end of the most recent legislative session. This bill would have "arbitrarily singled out Region 15, Southbury in particular, and would have essentially allowed the town of Middlebury’s Board of Education members to have veto power over any vote taking place," local officials said.
"Every resident of Southbury and Middlebury has benefited from our long and successful educational partnership that has thrived under the equitable system that gives both towns a fair voice. S.B. 1019 would have negatively affected this successful partnership and eliminated the fairness that has allowed the system to flourish over many years," Southbury officials said in a statement. "We thank all of those that took the time to write to our legislators, the Board of Education members who testified, and our legislators for their work on our behalf."
