Southbury Police to Collect Unused Prescription Drugs

Police collected 86 pounds of unused drugs in 2011.

Local citizens can dispose of leftover prescription drugs at the Southbury Police Station, on Saturday September 29.

Police will collect prescription drugs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in association with the Drug Enforcement Agency.

According to a press release, disposing of drugs by throwing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet still pose health and safety hazards.

Citizens can dispose of their pills “free and anonymously, no questions asked” according to the release.

Last year Southbury police collected 86 pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

Southbury PD finished second in a 2011 five-town drug collection initiative. Middlebury, Woodbury, Thomaston and Woodridge were also involved in the National Drug Take Back Day locally.
