Southbury Proposed Budget Includes Slight Tax Increase: Report
A budget referendum date has also been selected.
SOUTHBURY, CT – Local residents will vote at a May 8 budget referendum on whether to approve the town's $70.3 million proposed budget for fiscal 2019-20, which increases spending by 1.79 percent or $1.23 million, according to the Republican-American.
The budget, if approved, would result in a very slight tax increase for residents because the grand list growth is helping to keep the tax rate low. The tax rate would rise by 0.34 percent. The average homeowner could pay an additional $10 to to $25 next year in taxes, the Rep-Am reports.
Notable changes to the budget include funds to hire an economic development director and hiring a full-time animal control employee.
