Southbury Residents To Vote On $1.7M Tornado Cleanup Costs

A town meeting is scheduled for Thursday night.

SOUTHBURY, CT — A town meeting will be held Thursday, July 12 at 7 p.m. for residents to consider voting to approve a transfer of up to $1.7 million to pay for storm debris removal and debris management associated with the recent tornado.

The meeting occurs at 7 p.m. in Town Hall Room 205 A. According to the agenda, "Town Meeting will be held prior to a special Board of Selectmen's meeting to act on a proposal to transfer the sum of up to $1,700,000 from the fund Balance to the Highway Department for storm debris removal and debris management."

Town officials are hoping to receive 70 percent reimbursement for the cleanup costs from the federal government, the Republican-American reports.
