Southbury Seniors Sync Their Hearts Out
Residents at Pomperaug Woods retirement community excite a crowd with performances at community's annual variety show.
Lip syncing is taking the nation by storm. From The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to Spike’s Lip Sync Battle, millions are being captivated by the spectacle. Mega stars from Justin Bieber to Ellen DeGeneres to Tom Cruise have all graced the stage to lip synced renditions of some of America’s biggest hits. Now a group of Southbury older adults are taking on the phenomenon ... senior style!
This June, Pomperaug Woods retirement community hosted its annual variety show and brought the lip sync sensation to the stage. The event, “A Toast to the Woods,” was loosely based on The Ed Sullivan Show, and featured lip sync performances by 28 residents, covering classics by musical legends such as Elvis, The Beach Boys and Glen Campbell. The show featured elaborate costumes and props, transforming the residents into the best versions of the stars they’re emulating.
Residents involved range from a seasoned opera singer to newcomers to the stage. The crowds gave ovations to both the residents and staff who performed at Pomperaug Woods, located at 80 Heritage Road in Southbury.
