Southbury Training School's Closure Is Not Imminent
State Rep. Arthur O'Neill appeared before Board of Selectmen members to brief them on several state issues that could impact Southbury.

SOUTHBURY, CT — During this month's Board of Selectmen meeting, State Rep. Arthur O'Neill appeared before members to brief them on several state issues that could impact Southbury.
During O'Neill's update he did share that the planned closure of the Southbury Training School is still at least five years away, according to meeting minutes.

State Representative O'Neill gave a brief overview of the ongoing budget issues at the State. The issues with the Medicare Savings program are intended to be addressed when the legislature returns.
The State Supreme Court overruled the decision made with regard to ECS funding. This put the ECS funding plan back in the hands of the legislature.

The closure of the Southbury Training School appears to be at least five years away. Discussion has taken place with regard to citizens making charitable donations in lieu of taxes. This is in response to the new tax plan that caps Federal tax deductions for real estate. This would require a change in State law.
