Southbury Woman Has Close Encounter With Bear: Report

The bear was spotted earlier this month.

SOUTHBURY, CT — A Reservoir Road resident had a surprise, close-encounter with a black bear earlier this month. The Republican-American reports that the woman hit the garage door opener and out ran the bear on Aug. 7.

The bear was able to sneak in because the door was partially open and was eating garbage. Over the past year, there have been 236 bear sightings in Southbury, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
