Troop A-Southbury Trooper Honored For Saving A Life
The trooper sprung into action when he saw the driver's head pinned between the ground and the frame of the vehicle.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Troop A-Southbury Trooper First Class Mark Barone recently received a Medal for Lifesaving from the Connecticut State Police.
On Sept. 26, 2017, at 5:33 a.m., Troop A in Southbury received a 911 call from a tractor trailer operator reporting that he struck a street-sweeper on I-84 in Middlebury and that its operator was unconscious.
Trooper Barone responded and found the street-sweeper rolled over onto its side, with the operator’s head pinned between the ground and the frame of the vehicle. Trooper Barone immediately retrieved a tire jack and utilized it to elevate the cab of the street-sweeper to alleviate pressure and free the operator’s head.

Shortly thereafter, firefighters arrived on scene to extricate the operator from the vehicle and transport him to a local hospital.
Trooper Barone rendered immediate medical aid which resulted in minimizing the severity of the man’s
injuries. Trooper Barone earned the Medal for Lifesaving.
