Verizon Store to Host Backpack Giveaway on Sunday

Southbury, CT - Verizon of Southbury will host a backpack giveaway as back-to-school season approaches.

Verizon will give out free backpacks on a first-come, first-served basis at their store on Main Street North in Southbury on Sunday, July 21 beginning at 1:00pm while supplies last. The event runs until 4:00pm. The child must be present to claim their backpack with no purchase necessary. There will be a video game truck for the children as well.

Since 2013, nearly 700,000 students have received free school supplies and a brand new backpack thanks to the Culture of Good. This year, Wireless Zone and other companies across the country are partnering together to show their communities how much they care. Families and local children are invited to Wireless Zone in the Southbury Plaza on Sunday, July 21, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., to pick up a backpack filled with various school supplies, including pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders and glue.There will be free refreshments, face painting, a balloon artist, and a DJ providing music. Southbury first selectman Jeff Manville is also slated to be at the event.

Staff members will be set up under the clock tower in the center of the plaza, where one backpack per child present will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

Wireless Zone in the Southbury Plaza, is among the Verizon stores partnering with The Cellular Connection (TCC) and Culture of Good to donate backpacks full of school supplies to children in need through the brand’s eighth annual “School Rocks” Backpack Giveaway.“We are proud to be part of such an amazing movement, and pleased to partner with the company on an initiative like the backpack giveaway that aligns so well with our own store values,” said Dmitriy Marchenko, Southbury Plaza Wireless Zone franchise owner. “Our whole staff looks forward to it each year.”

Any leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools. Wireless Zone and TCC are working to alleviate the rising costs of school supplies for families through this annual program. It is expected that this year they will give away 235,000 total backpacks nationwide to ensure that all children are well prepared for the start of the school year.
