Water Conservation Strongly Urged In Southbury
The Pomperaug River has dropped to a low flow level typically seen once every four years.
SOUTHBURY, CT — River flows in the Pomperaug River have fallen below seven cubic feet per second, which activated a planned third and final plan to reduce water usage in town.
Heritage Village Water Company, Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition and the Town of Southbury are asking residents and businesses in the Pomperaug River Basin to reduce their water use.
"The Town of Southbury is setting a water conservation example for the community,” said First Selectman Jeffrey Manville.“The Department of Public Works will be limiting the washing of vehicles unless needed for maintenance, irrigation at town facilities will be reduced where possible and town hall has been requested to reduce water usage.” Manville further stated, “The Pomperaug River and its ecosystem are a vital asset to Southbury and neighboring communities. We all need to do our part during low-flow periods.”
