World Premier of New Satirical Play
Pomperaug students perform a new play this May, written by their drama teacher.
Pomperaug Theatre Company at Pomperaug High School announces the world premiere of a new play, Ubu The Conqueror, written and directed by our very own Artistic Director, Mr. Paul E Doniger. This play, based on the characters from the satirical plays of late 19th century France by Alfred Jarry, is set in the very distant future – the year 3016 to be precise. It relates the clumsy attempts at world dominance by the much-less-than-brilliant title character, his ambitious wife, and a very loyal group of sketchy followers.
Ubu, who is played by Cameron Slater, has just been “elected” President of the Western Hemisphere, and with the assistance of his ambitious wife, First Lady Ubu, played by Kathleen Stango, his loyal entourage (played by Lauren Stango, Samantha Torino, Jess Penzetta, and Jacob Rogotzke) and the brilliant Professor Unwitan, played by Marissa Proulx, decides to take over the rest of the world. The only trouble is that his Conscience, played by Abbey Dwight, keeps trying to stop him.
This cast and crew for this production is being ably lead by Assistant Director Emily Pearson and Stage Manager Elizabeth Styblo. Set designs are being executed by student Art Director Lea Claflin and costumes are designed by Sophie Stanko.
