I’m writing this letter to the editor to endorse Zaya Oshana as he seeks re-election to the Board of Education, a position he has held for 2 years. I first encountered Mr. Oshana as a politician, working the polls as he ran for the Planning and Zoning Committee on which he served for 16 years. Additionally, he held the positions of vice chairman and chairman for 4 years each. He has also served as Treasurer of the Town Committee.
I then got to know Zaya as a parent with our children attending Strong Elementary, JFK Middle and Southington High schools together. Through the years I learned he was NEVER a politician, he is a public servant. What’s the difference? He is humble. He doesn’t care about getting credit for accomplishments; rather, he cares about our children, ALL of them. Ensuring they and those who teach them get the support they need so the students reach their highest potential, whether its attending college or graduating high school with the skills necessary to competitively enter the workforce.
He is a man of honor and integrity. He is willing to ask the tough questions and require factual evidence be presented as proof something has merit, rather than listening to hear say and going with the majority or even his own party. He stands up for what he believes in and for that reason I stand in support of Zaya Oshana as the best candidate for the Board Of Education.
